Bio

Plains (Cameron Wiest) is a multidisciplinary artist hailing from Saskatchewan Canada. Wiest started exploring electronic music at 14 as a curious nerd through desktop apps like ReBirth and Sonic Foundry Acid. In 2007 he studied sound design at Vancouver film school, training that prepared him to work in the film and video game industries as a sound recordist, sound designer, technical sound artist, and composer.

After spending timed in the film and game industry, Wiest began to explore interactive technologies and new media based arts expression. Rapid proto-typing in the game industry exposed them to platforms like Max/MSP, Puredata, and arduino which would become tools in regular rotation. Their interest and passion for generative audio would eventially cross the gap into generative visual effects and procedural visual compositions.

In 2013, Wiest returned to Saskatchewan to complete an after-degree in Arts Education. Currently a STEAM educator at Regina Public Schools, Wiest teaches robotics, communication media, and design studies. Their current arts practice centers on hand-made audio/visual instruments, interactive installations, and place-based experience
